BONNET SHORES BEACH CLUB | Dear Fellow BSBCCA Members, The following summary of the
April
11, 2007 Board
Meeting was approved at the
Board meeting of April
25, 2007 1.
Discussion of General Manager.
Joe Mignano, the BSBCCA President,
resigned from the Board of Directors. The
consensus of the Board is that Joe is the most qualified candidate for the
position of Interim General Manager given the fact that the former General
Manager, Eric Jenssen, resigned so close to the
opening of the facility for the 2007 season.
Joe was officially engaged as Interim General Manager effective this
date. (Please
allow me, Louise Healy, to
editorialize here. Inasmuch as
you may have questions regarding the reason why Eric left our employ, I must
tell you that the Board members are constrained from discussing the issue
due to a confidentiality clause in the agreement that we reached with him.
Moreover, the Managers -- General, Office, Assistant, and Restaurant
-- are also under the umbrella of this confidentiality clause.
Therefore, although inquiring minds may want to know, we are legally
restricted from sharing any information.
Having said that, what I can tell you is this --- I will miss
Eric very much. He oversaw many
changes at the Beach Club and brought us a long way; thanks in large part
to Eric, we are a very
different facility than the one we were when he joined us in 1998.
It’s difficult to think of the Beach Club without Eric; it pains me
to have to do so.) 2.
Discussion of septic. The
RI Supreme Court denied the developer’s appeal of the DEM permit which had
been issued for the construction of our new septic system. This means that
the developer has exhausted all of his appeals on this particular issue.
Accordingly, our next step is to pursue the permit from CRMC for the
construction of our new septic system. 3.
Discussion of food services.
Several new ideas were presented to and accepted by the Board: a. Catering to Your Cabana – the restaurant will prepare items from a new and special menu that can be delivered directly to a unit or to another specified area on site. The order must be placed 24 hours in advance and paid for in advance. b. Rainy Night Specials – there will be various highlighted items on the regular dining room menu which will be offered on a two-for-one basis with the patron paying for the higher priced item on rainy Friday and Saturday evenings. c.
We will have special events under the tent on those two
days when the Red Sox play the Yankees. One of those two games will be
played in September after our food services traditionally close.
We will still host the event if interest warrants it. d.
We will have two Movie Nights.
The Snack Bar will remain open on those nights. e.
New Year’s Eve will be on August
4th. A special fixed
price menu will be offered in the restaurant.
All reservations will have to be pre-paid either 1.) in
cash or 2.) on a BSBC restaurant charge or 3.) on
a bank charge card. f.
Glasses with the BSBC logo will be merchandised out of the
restaurant. g.
Two more televisions will be purchased for under the tent. h.
In order to mitigate the noise level in the restaurant,
sound absorbing panels will be installed on 60% of the ceiling.
In addition, various panels will be installed on the walls. 4. Discussion of special projects. a. The reconstruction of the second floor of the square is scheduled to be completed next week (the week of April 16). b. The Narragansett Fire Dept has ordered that we update our fire alarm system. We are required to change the connections in all of the heat sensing boxes to a new connector that is more efficient. The Fire Dept has mandated that this be accomplished before we open for the season. We have given the go-ahead to the company that will perform this job. The cost is an un-budgeted expense of $24,000. 5. Discussion of campfires. Although the Board had previously agreed to ban open fires, the Board discussed a suggestion 1.) that we purchase several kettle pits and that we rent them to owners on a first come, first served basis every day, 2.) that the Security Staff would deliver them to the owner on the beach, 3.) that the Security Staff would make sure that the fire was out at the end of the night, 4.) that the Security Staff would dispose of any remaining ashes, 5.) that the Security Staff would then store the kettles away. The Board rejected the proposal based mainly upon the liability that the BSBCCA could incur.
Respectfully
submitted,
